Wood versus Faux Blinds

A question we commonly get asked by our customers is whether to buy wood versus faux wood blinds.

Firstly what are faux wood blinds? A faux wood blind is either a venetian blind with aluminium or a plastic slats that have a wood grain print on them to give the impression of real wood. These are commonly referred to as wood effect blinds. At NewBlinds.co.uk we pride on only providing the highest quality of aluminium wood effect blinds.

The advantages of aluminium wood effect blinds over real wood blinds are:

• Just as there are many shades of wood, there are also many shades of wood effect. On the left one of our lighter
shades and one of our darker shades is shown on the right.

• Wood effect blinds are often considerably cheaper than real wood, and from a distance you can’t even tell the difference!

• The maximum width on wood effect is 4000mm where as in real wood the max is 2400mm.

• Aluminium blinds are lighter than wood blinds so this makes them easier to raise and lower, this is especially important with considerably wide blinds or blinds with a large drop.

• Faux wood blinds are better in damp or steamy conditions - as they can be wiped clean and don't warp - This makes them better for bathrooms and kitchens.

• Faux Wood Blinds also react better to the heat, this means they are more suited to conservatories.

Real Wood Blinds do have some advantages over aluminium. Here’s a few:

• Undoubtedly real wood gives a much more fashionable and luxurious finish.

• Real wood adds the feeling of natural warmth and sophistication to a room.
