Easy Mesh Panel Door Fly Screen Instructions

28/12/2008

Easy Mesh Panel Door Insect Screens can be bought online, here.

Following the Pictorial Instructions (PDF) these notes are designed to give written explanations for certain options as additional guidance.

To prepare and assemble the Easy Mesh Panel Door Screen from the components supplied, the familiar DIY tools you will need are :-

• Small Hacksaw ( with good, new blade )
• Craft Knife with sharp blade ( if snap-off, use a fresh one )
• Measuring tape or steel rule
• Pencil
• Screwdriver
• A drill and bits of the sizes shown ( for fixing headrail )

COMPONENTS SUPPLIED
In the pack you will find :-

• 1 x length of White adhesive backed plastic Headrail.
• 3 x lengths Black Fibreglass Mesh
• 1 x length Adhesive-backed Hook Tape
• 1 x length of Soft Loop Tape
• 3 x lengths of White plastic Bottom Weights

Step 1.

MEASURE

TIP - Check HOW you will fix your finished screen BEFORE cutting anything.  Decide first if you are fixing INSIDE or OUTSIDE, within the reveal or over the top of the door space. Decide if it is permanent for the season or if you want to make it easily removable

Measure your door opening for covering with the screen. This screen is designed for maximum 950mm Width x 2200mm Height.

Step 2.
If you are fitting within the reveal. The width is pre-determined as is the overlap of each Panel. If you are fitting AROUND the Opening, decide how much overlap you can allow for finished screen. Final Height should be to the floor in both cases.

TIP – Since the top end of the Mesh Panels is hidden in the Headrail, take care to make the measurement of each panel long enough to be held, when suspended, whilst reaching floor level.

Step 3.
Fix the Bottom Weights to one edge of each Mesh Panel.

TIP – If possible hang them somewhere to start the process of removing the curl from rolling-up.

Step 4.
Weight down the 3 Mesh Panels flat on the floor and measure the finished length required for them to reach the floor from the hanging position.

TIP - Cut ONLY when you are sure you have correctly measured.

Step 5.
Measure and cut the Headrail.

TIP – Use a sharp blade or file to take off any rough burrs after cutting. IF you are going to stick the Headrail permanently for the season, lift the protective paper backing from the adhesive tape on the fixing side of the headrail, but DO NOT remove it yet.
TIP- You can fix the Headrail by drilling and screwing through the plastic if you prefer, or by drilling big holes in the back surface to allow the rail to be hooked over screwheads fixed above the doorway.
( IF fixing the Screen in a removable fashion – go to Step 7 )

Step 6.
Clip the 3 Mesh Panel strips in place in the folding Headrail to trap them in place.

TIP- Make sure they are level at Floor level end
TIP – Fit the centre panel first and match the others to it.
TIP – IF you do not want to use the Hook and Loop Tapes to fix the headrail above the door, you can stick them inside the headrail to give extra grip to the Mesh Panels. Stick the Loop Tape to the Headrail, lay the Panels on top and brush the Loop tape carefully through the holes to catch on the Hook tape. Trim as necessary.

If permanently fixing using the adhesive tape on the back of the Headrail, now remove the protective paper completely. Offer the Headrail up above the door opening until the Bottom Weights are touching the floor and press the adhesive side against the wall surface to stick it.

TIP – Mark a couple of light pencil lines above the door space representing the top of the finished installation, so you get it in the right place and horizontal.
TIP – This is a strong adhesive bond which improves with time, so be sure to get it in the right place.

Step 7.
If the Hook and Loop tape method is to be used for securing the Mesh Panel Door Screen in a removable way, measure and stick the Hook Tape to the wall above the door at the height where the Headrail can be stuck to it in the correct place.

TIP – Remove the protective paper from the back of the Headrail and stick the Loop Tape to it, so that it is firmly held. This enables the Headrail to be gently peeled off the Hook Tape easily at any time.

Step 8.
Offer up the Headrail first to be certain the Height is correct.
Press the Headrail firmly against the Hook Tape and ensure the Panels are hanging to floor level.

TIP- Mark a couple of light pencil lines above the door space representing the top of the finished installation, so you get it in the right place and horizontal.

TIP – When showing others how to use the Mesh Panel Door Screen, divide the Panels with one hand and separate them with light pressure only to ensure the integrity and long-life of the screen. Try to always pass through the centre leaving the side Panels in place.

TIP – Remove the Screen when the season of need is over, and store it carefully, taking extra care not to fold or crease the Panels.

SAFETY NOTE:

The screen is to keep out insects. It is NOT designed to prevent animals or children from passing and should never be considered safe for this purpose in windows or doors.
