Louvolite Energy Saving Blinds

If you could choose between blinds that conserve energy or regular blinds which don’t save any energy, which would you choose?
The government have made it clear that both home owners and business owners are going to have to increase our energy efficiency. If you combine this with the huge rise in gas and electricity prices that we have seen over the last couple of years, you can see how beneficial it would be to reduce the amount energy that you consume and pay for.
In the same way that roof insulation and double glazed windows can play a part in making your home or offices energy efficient, and cheaper to run – window blinds have an important role to play in insulating against heat loss and energy wastage during winter months.
In summer, blinds also reduce “solar gain”, meaning they cut down the amount of the sun’s heat that is transferred through windows into your room – meaning air conditioning units won’t have to work quite as hard to keep your room cool – Again, less energy is used and money is saved!
In reality, all types of blinds and fabrics will provide some energy savings, and therefore cost savings. However, it’s important to realise that some types of blinds and specific fabrics perform a lot better than others.
So now, you’ll be asking, “How do I know which is the best fabric or blind type to save energy?”… a good question.
Luckily, one of the UK’s best known blind system and fabric manufacturers, Louvolite have decided to lead the energy saving movement within the blinds industry by extensively testing all their fabrics and blinds systems for energy efficiency..
From their testing, they have been able to categorise their fabrics and blind types by how much energy and therefore money they would save the average household. The best performing fabrics, would save 15% or £133 per year according to their tests.
Louvolite also tested their “no drill” Perfect Fit system. The results were pretty amazing with up to 4% additional savings on some fabrics and configurations. With the perfect fit range expanding into new blind types and more fabrics being added to the collection, we predict that perfect fit blinds will be a bit hit with energy conscious customers
It is important to remember that by chosing the most energy efficient blinds, not only are you saving money, you are always helping the environment by using less energy. With the current focus on being environmentally friendly, it is good to know you are doing your bit.
As soon as the full results are published by Louvolite, we’ll be writing an update to this article, so keep checking back to the “Guide to Blinds” section of our website.
In the mean time, you can buy blinds online by following the link. Perfect Fit Blinds can be found in the conservatory blinds section.
