FAQ: Fly Screens: Do you sell VELUX Fly Screens?

We are often asked whether we sell Genuine VELUX Fly Screens or Fly screens that are suitable for VELUX windows. The answer is yes, and in this article, I’d like to tell you a little bit more about them.

VELUX insect screens are roller blind style fly screens. The fly screen mesh is contained within a high quality aluminium spring loaded cassette with plastic end caps. The mesh screen is pulled down with an aluminium sliding bottom bar, which runs in aluminium side guides.

The mesh is an extra fine type of mesh which allows fresh air and light to enter the room, whilst keeping pests out.

Rather than being installed directly to the window opening, Genuine VELUX Fly Screens are installed around the outside of the window recess. This is due to the way VELUX Windows function, often tilting into the window space. If you fitted it on the window frame it would stop the window from opening. Fixing VELUX Fly Screens to the window recess edge, leaves the window fully functional and allows you to easily slide the screen up and down whenever you want.

VELUX Fly Screens are compatible with all sizes of VELUX windows. However, when selecting your screen size, please be aware of the following problem areas…

Splayed Recess – In some cases your recess will not be straight, instead it will taper away from the window, if this is the case you will need to ring us to purchase a fly screen, as you can not simply order using your window size as it would be inaccurate.

Shallow Recess – If your recess is shallow than six inches it is pointless buying an insect screen, because it would stop the window from tilting so you wouldn’t be able to open it while the insect screen was down.
