What Are Blackout Blinds?

Blackout blinds are usually roller blinds that block out sunlight.

Depending on the amount you are willing to spend, they vary from free hanging roller blinds simply using a blackout fabric to give a "blackout effect" to fully light tight cassette blackout roller blinds with side guides.

What types of blinds are available as blackout blinds?

Roller Blinds – If you buy from the blackout blind section of NewBlinds.co.uk, you can buy free hanging roller blinds with blackout fabric. We have a great of colours collection ranging from denim blue to silver grey.

Do Blackout Blinds really blackout the light?

VELUX, ROOFLITE, FAKRO and DAKSTRA blackout blinds are as close to 100% blackout as you can get without spending hundreds of pounds. This is because they have tight fabrics and guide rails which sandwich the edges of the fabric to ensure maximum light tightness.

Roller and Roman Blinds are free hanging and don't run in guide rails. So, they are not 100% blackout. They will let light in around the edges of the blind itself. However, if you're just looking for undisturbed day time naps, they will be more than sufficient.

Whilst vertical blinds are available with Blackout fabrics, they will obviously allow light to escape into the room between the individual fabric louvers.
