It's recommended to clean your fly screens every three months, and even more often if you live near the coast.
Good quality glass fibre fly screen mesh has a lifespan of up to 15 years. A lower quality mesh may be impacted by being exposed to UV rays which could reduce that life span significantly. Life span is also impacted by wear and tear and also damage. Obviously puncturing the mesh of a fly screen, will reduce it’s effectiveness. Hence the type of fly screen that the mesh is incorporated into also has an impact on life span. A framed fly screen is more prone to damage than a roller fly screen for example. The mesh on roller fly screens only needs to be deployed when the windows or door is open, meaning the mesh is hidden away in the cassette, for a greater proportion of the time, protecting it from damage. We find that roller fly screen have the longest life span compared to other types of fly screens.
Even the tiniest mosquitoes and midges can be kept at bay with the help of fly screens, as long as the mesh is small enough. A high-quality fly screen will keep mosquitoes and other flying pests away from you and your loved ones without restricting airflow.
Midges that bite thrive in damp environments. Regular fly mesh is too large to impede their passage and will only provide minimal resistance. Fly screens, insect screens, and barrier doors can all benefit greatly from the addition of purpose-built midge mesh, which comes in two gauges 20x20 threads per inch and 20x30 per inch for extra protection against smaller midges.
Aluminum is more robust than fibreglass, but it can still be dented and bent over time. There is robust aluminium on the market that can serve as a shield against this.
The garden hose will work just fine for cleaning the flyscreens. If you're going to be utilising a high-pressure hose, you need to reduce the pressure and keep the nozzle a safe distance from the screen to avoid pushing the mesh out of its frame. It is advisable to first dislodge any fine debris by gently using a hoover with the soft brush nozzle adaptor.
You may either buy citronella spray with its own sprayer, or you can buy citronella oil in a tiny bottle and dilute it with water to use in a regular spray bottle. As an alternative, you can spray citronella over the screen by dampening a paper towel with citronella.
A vacuum cleaner may be used to remove light debris from a fly screen such as cobwebs and dust. You can use the nozzle adaptor with the soft brush to gently dislodge any such debris. Carry out this process on both sides of the screen.
When it comes to screens for windows, doors, and porches, a great choice for homeowners is a roller fly screen with a high-transparency bug mesh. These roller screens retract into a sleek and discrete cassette when not in use. The mesh only needs to be deployed across the opening when the window is open. And very little of the outside world or natural light will be obscured by the mesh itself.
Fly screens allow the free flow of air into your properly but eliminate insects. The standard mesh will not massively impact the flow of dust. There are very fine meshes such as pollen mesh which will prevent the ingress of pollen and some dust. Even finer meshes are being trailed which inhibits the flow of dust and air pollution.
No insect screens do not inhibit airflow. The beauty of insect screens is that they serve to exclude insects and creepy crawlies but allow fresh air to circulate, which is a blessing during those hot and stuffy summer months.
Any and all flying insects, including spiders, will be kept out of your home or place of business by fly screens.
There are several types of fly screens available for bifold doors, including retractable screens, sliding screens and pleated screen. Retractable screens are the most popular and convenient option, as they can be pulled across the opening when needed and retracted when not in use. Larger scale retractable roller screens with the mesh housed in a cassette at the top of the door are available, and these tend to be motorised due to their size with the mesh rolling down from the top to cover the large door opening. Sliding screens are similar to retractable screens, but they slide along tracks instead of rolling up into a housing. Pleated screens stack at the side of the opening and pull across to cover the door. They can be supplied in multiple panels to cover wider openings and for flexibility and ease of operation.
A fly screen for bifold doors can offer several benefits, including keeping insects out, improving ventilation, reducing energy bills, filtering out allergens, and being easy to install and use. It allows fresh air to circulate while preventing bugs from entering your home, making it a great option for those who want to enjoy natural ventilation without worrying about pests.
Patio screens are worth buying because they provide insect protection, improved ventilation, and increased home value. They allow you to enjoy your outdoor living space while keeping insects out. Patio screens also allow for improved ventilation and can increase the value of your home.
The lifespan of patio screens can vary depending on several factors, such as the quality of the materials used, the level of maintenance, the care taken in operation and whilst not being used, and the weather conditions in the area. Well-maintained patio screens made from high-quality materials have been known to last up to 10-15 years. However, exposure to extreme weather conditions, lack of maintenance, damage via rough treatment by users or pets, can significantly reduce their lifespan.
